Bright and Shiny Shiny

I'm always on the lookout for the next bright and shiny book!

Tell the Wind and Fire

Tell the Wind and Fire - Sarah Rees Brennan Meh--I guess that's why it took so long. I was just never in any hurry to get back to it.

Though it did make me want to read [bc:A Tale of Two Cities / Great Expectations|9748274|A Tale of Two Cities / Great Expectations|Charles Dickens|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1436724821s/9748274.jpg|14637456]!

Stargazing Dog

Stargazing Dog - Takashi Murakami, 村上たかし loved it!

Get in Trouble: Stories

Get in Trouble: Stories - Kelly Link Looks like I'm in the minority in not absolutely adoring this collection. I really enjoy short stories and I noticed someone tagged this for fans of George Saunders who I adore but other than loving the first story the rest of the book left me cold. I'm sad because I was so excited when I found this on the shelf at the library. Maybe I should try a different collection.

Servamp Vol. 1

Servamp Vol. 1 - Strike Tanaka Meh---If volume two shows up at our branch I might check it out but I won't be going out of my way!

Three Times the Scandal

Three Times the Scandal - Madelynne Ellis 3.5

Very steamy!

Six of Crows

Six of Crows - Leigh Bardugo Loved it!

Our Chemical Hearts

Our Chemical Hearts - Krystal Sutherland Our Chemical Hearts

I received a review copy of this from Goodreads and since there are lots of long and detailed reviews already I'm just going to do a thumbnail review. Overall I'd have to say I enjoyed myself as I was reading this but it's definitely a novel that requires a little suspension of disbelief the further you get into it. Looking back I think I'd knock it down 1/2 a star for some of the later reveals. I don't think some of the things that happened in the novel would have happened in real life but maybe. It just doesn't feel completely believable for adults to behave in the ways they did. If it feels as though I'm being deliberately vague I am but I don't want to give away any spoilers. It wasn't a bad read by any means and you can see from the reviews how many others loved it. I would recommend it, just with some minor reservations. 3.5

The Arab of the Future: A Graphic Memoir

The Arab of the Future: A Graphic Memoir - Riad Sattouf This was another one of those random grabs off the graphic novel shelf of my local library branch. Then a few weeks ago it turned up on the top 1o list of graphic novels or manga that have stuck with you of a friend whose opinion I really trust ...so I guess it was time for me to read this.

An incredibly interesting memoir of growing up in Gaddafi's Libya, Assad's Syria and rural France as seen through a child's eyes. Sattouf's mom was French and his father was a Sunni Syrian who met when his father was studying at the Sorbonne. The family heads from one dismal Arab place to another as the father attempts to realize his grandiose dreams for the Arab nation.

This is the first volume and I'm excited to see what happens when the author heads off to school in Syria which is where it seems hopefully volume 2 will be heading

Highly recommended!!

Honey So Sweet, Vol. 3

Honey So Sweet, Vol. 3 - Amu Meguro 4.5

Thornyhold

Thornyhold - Mary Stewart, Meg Cabot 4.5
Not much happened but Mary Stewart described it oh so beautifully that it didn't matter!

Octopus Pie Volume 1

Octopus Pie Volume 1 - Meredith Gran, Meredith Gran I grabbed this on a whim from my "adult" graphic novel section (as opposed to the teen section where most of my manga comes from) and it's good but not great. I don't feel compel to search out the additional volumes or completely finish this one which I've just been randomly flipping through. Read most of it sitting on the porch smoking.

The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters

The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters - Gordon Dahlquist Found an arc on the shelves at Marty & Carol's house when I first arrived in Portland and remember really enjoying this.

Sheltered, Volume 1: A Pre-Apocalyptic Tale

Sheltered, Volume 1: A Pre-Apocalyptic Tale - John Christmas, Ed Brisson 3.5

Interesting but a little far-fetched.

Buzz Books 2016: Romance: Exclusive Excerpts from Top New Romance Titles

Buzz Books 2016: Romance: Exclusive Excerpts from Top New Romance Titles - Sarah Wendell 2.5.

I skipped about a third of this but of the ones I read I only marked three or so to read but glad they finally did one for romance.

Imagining Argentina

Imagining Argentina - Lawrence Thornton I remember really liking this long long ago.

QQ Sweeper, Vol. 1

QQ Sweeper, Vol. 1 - Kyousuke Motomi 4.5
